My journaling has been all over the place lately, Reader. Some days I have five different journals where I dump compartmentalized thoughts—personal, work-related, gratitude, to-do lists, etc. It pours out of me so fast that even the hand cramps don't slow the pen down! Other days, I struggle to find motivation to crack open a notebook or put my pen to paper. That’s the cycle of this journey. I used to think something was wrong with me. “This was easy yesterday. Why can’t I fill the page today?” But after decades of trying to be consistent with a regular journaling practice, I realized one thing: no two pages are the same…in the best way possible. How boring would it be if you picked up a journal from ten years ago and read the same exact same words for 150 pages? No mention of the people you met or the adventures you had. Just the same entry, day after day. Or what if you realized you're constantly writing about the same problems over and over again with no real resolution? No thanks. I choose the messy, unpredictable chaos that pours out of me and the words I have to dig out of the depths to plop down (against their will!) on the page. Your one small thing this week. Let it be easy. Yesterday, I remembered business coach Susie Moore's catchphrase, "Let it be easy," which she shared with me during a podcast interview a few years ago. This little statement was exactly what I needed to hear as I wrote this newsletter to you. That subtle reminder shifted my whole perspective. I realized I've been making things so much harder than they need to be. When journaling feels tough this week, don’t fight it. Let it be easy. Deep breaths. Just write. Krystal P.S. I'm feeling more and more in my "wanna buy a farm and homestead" era and further away from my previous "working online for hours on end and creating content" era. I want to go analog more. What analog activities do you enjoy? P.P.S. Speaking of being online, I wanted to dig up the actual interview I did with Susie because it really was a great conversation. Here it is if you want to see it, but fair warning! It's mostly for business folks trying to be featured in publications. If that's not your thing, no worries. It's not really my thing right now either. |
